Purpose of this article
Learn how to build named scenarios in the Roadmap, switch between them, and compare different combinations of measures side by side, all within a single portfolio.
Before you start
- Access level: Portfolio Editor or Admin
- Your portfolio should already have roadmap measures set up. See Setting up roadmap inputs.
Every portfolio starts with a Base case scenario that reflects its current measures. Existing roadmaps are unchanged until you create additional scenarios.
What a scenario is
A scenario is a named combination of roadmap measures within one portfolio. Instead of cloning a portfolio or rebuilding projections in a spreadsheet, you can model alternatives such as Base case, Best case, and Worst case, and compare their pathways directly.
Creating and switching scenarios
- Go to Analytics Portal → Portfolio → Roadmap Analysis → Strategy
- Use the scenario picker above the pathway chart to switch the active scenario, or select New scenario to create one and give it a descriptive name
- Use the Energy, GHG, and CapEx tabs above the chart to review each view
- Select Compare to overlay up to three scenarios on the chart at once
You can create up to five scenarios per portfolio.
Including or excluding measures per scenario
Each scenario has its own set of included measures. Select Edit measures on the Strategy tab to open the measure list for the active scenario, then include or exclude individual measures.
Bulk actions help when working with many measures:
- Select measures by group, by year range, or by status
- Copy the full set of measures from another scenario as a starting point
Locking a scenario
Lock a scenario to freeze its calculation, so figures you have already shared (for example board-meeting projections) stay fixed even if the underlying measures change later.
Lock the scenario you have presented externally, then keep iterating in a separate scenario.
Scope of scenarios
Scenarios apply to the Energy, GHG, and CapEx views. Whole Life Cycle is not covered by scenarios.
