Purpose of this article
Learn how to model a roadmap measure that affects more than one energy carrier in a single entry, such as an electrification measure that reduces gas use while increasing electricity use.
Before you start

When to use a multi-carrier measure
Some interventions change more than one energy carrier at once:
- A heat pump reduces gas (Scope 1) but increases electricity (Scope 2)
- Dual-fuel and electrification measures shift consumption from one carrier to another
Previously this required splitting one intervention into two measures, which could understate the Scope 2 increase. A single measure can now capture both effects.
Where to find it
Open the measure you want to edit:
Data Collection Portal → Asset → Roadmap Measures → [measure] → Reduction details
You can also reach a measure from Analytics Portal → Portfolio → Roadmap Analysis → Strategy → Edit measures.
How it works
In the measure's Reduction details section, under ENERGY:
- Choose a
Reduction method(Energy use intensity reductionorTotal energy savings)
- For the first carrier, set the
Energy reduction type(for exampleNatural Gas) and itsEUI reduction
- Select + Add energy carrier to add another carrier, then set its
Energy reduction type(for exampleElectricity) and reduction value
For a carrier whose use goes up (for example the electricity drawn by a new heat pump), enter its reduction as a negative value. The roadmap aggregates the impacts across Scope 1 and Scope 2, so the projected pathway reflects the net effect of the measure.
Single-carrier measures continue to work unchanged. Use multiple carriers only when one measure genuinely affects more than one.
Entering multi-carrier measures in bulk
Multi-carrier impacts can also be entered through the Roadmap Measures tab of the Scaler Spreadsheet, which includes repeating carrier-impact columns for the additional carriers.
