Scaler is an ENERGY STAR partner, allowing you to integrate your Scaler environment with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
This article walks you through the complete process of integrating your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account with Scaler, from initial account registration to granting data access permissions.
Integration workflow overview
The process of connecting ENERGY STAR with Scaler follows these steps:
- Register with ENERGY STAR — Create and activate your Portfolio Manager account
- Add Scaler as a contact — Connect with Scaler Global in your ENERGY STAR account
- Share data with Scaler — Grant permissions for automated data exchange
- Confirm integration — Wait for Scaler to accept and finalize the connection
Registering with ENERGY STAR
Before integrating with Scaler, you need an active ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account.
Creating your ENERGY STAR account
- Navigate to the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager website using your web browser
- Click the Create a New Account button to begin the registration process

- Fill out the required fields with your basic information
- Click Create My Account to finalize your registration
- Check your email inbox and click the activation link from ENERGY STAR to activate your account
Adding Scaler as a contact
Once your ENERGY STAR account is active, add Scaler Global as a contact to enable the connection.
Connecting with Scaler Global
- Log in to your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account
- Click the Contacts button in the top right corner of the page
- Click Add New Contacts
- Search for Scaler using any of the following information:
- Name: Scaler Global
- Organization: Scaler Global Inc
- Username: ScalerGlobal
- Email address: info@scalerglobal.com

- Click Connect when Scaler Global appears in the search results
- Read and agree to Scaler's Terms of Use
- Click Send Connection Request to complete the connection
Sharing data with Scaler
Grant Scaler permission to access your ENERGY STAR data for automated syncing.
Authorizing data exchange
- Log in to your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account
- Navigate to the Sharing tab

- Select Share with your Utility or Service Provider for exchanging data
- Complete the sharing configuration:
- Select
Scaler Global (ScalerGlobal)from the Select Web Services Provider (Account) dropdown - Select the properties you would like to share with Scaler
- Under Choose Permissions, select
Bulk Sharing (Simple Option) - Choose your preferred access level — we recommend
Exchange Data Full Access (with full access to all properties and meters)to finalize the integration
- Click Authorize Exchange to grant data access
Confirmation: Once you've completed the sharing process, you will receive a confirmation after Scaler has accepted the request. Scaler will then proceed with the internal setup to finalize the integration.
Troubleshooting & common mistakes
Cannot find Scaler Global in contacts → Verify you're searching with the correct username (ScalerGlobal) or email (info@scalerglobal.com). Check that your ENERGY STAR account is fully activated.
Connection request not completing → Ensure you've agreed to Scaler's Terms of Use before clicking Send Connection Request. If the request fails, try logging out and back in to ENERGY STAR.
Data not syncing after authorization → Confirm that you selected the correct properties to share and granted Exchange Data Full Access. Contact your Scaler account manager if data doesn't begin flowing within 48 hours.
Properties not appearing in sharing options → Verify that properties are fully set up in your ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account before attempting to share them with Scaler.
