How can we help? 👋

Managing utility provider credentials

See the connection status of every utility login Scaler uses for your account, and add, edit, or deactivate credentials from one place.

Purpose of this article

See every utility provider login connected to your account, check whether each one is working, and add, edit, or remove credentials yourself.

Before you start

  • Required access: Admin or Portfolio Access
  • Navigation: Company Level → Data Collection Portal → Automations → Credentials

Today this view works at the credential level only. A more granular view down to account and meter level is to come.

What you can do

  • View every credential connected to your company in one list, regardless of which portfolio or asset it feeds.
  • Check each credential's Provider Name, Username, Status, and Status Detail (for example Invalid credentials or Data extraction in progress).
  • Search, sort, and filter the list by any column.

Adding a credential

  1. Click Add Credential.
  1. Select the utility provider - the fields shown adjust to match what that provider requires.
  1. Enter the username and password, plus any additional fields the provider asks for.
  1. Click Create.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Some utility providers enforce MFA on their login. MFA is supported for a number of providers, though not all of them, and the way it is handled differs per provider. If a provider you are adding enforces MFA, let your Account Operations contact know and they will help you get the connection working.

Credential statuses

Status
Meaning
Connected
Login is working and data is syncing
Action required
Connection failed - check the status detail for the reason and update the credential
In progress
Scaler is still verifying the connection
Inactive
Credential is deactivated and not syncing

Editing, deactivating, or deleting a credential

Open the view icon on any row to edit the username or password, deactivate or reactivate the credential, or delete it.

An existing password cannot be displayed, only overwritten. To change it, type the new password over the old one.

If a credential is no longer needed, deactivate it first. Only delete if you're certain - this cannot be undone.

Deactivating a credential in Scaler does not automatically stop billing on the utility side. Contact Account Ops to confirm all associated accounts are deactivated with the provider too.
