Creating custom fields at company level

How admins create and configure custom fields at the company level: field name, description, type, and sections. Custom fields are part of the Scale plan.

Purpose of this article

This article explains how to create and configure custom fields at the company level. This is step one of three: create fields at company level, confirm they are enabled per portfolio, then enter values per asset.

Before you start

  • Access level: Admin only.
  • Custom fields are part of the Scale plan. If you do not see Custom fields, contact your Scaler Account Operations Manager.

Create a custom field

  1. Go to Data Collection Portal → Company → Custom fields.
  1. Create a new field and set:
      • Field name — the label users see.
      • Description — tooltip text explaining what the field captures.
      • Field typenumeric, text, date, dropdown, multi-select, boolean, or formula.
      • Unit — where applicable.
  1. Save.

Once your first field is created, the Custom Fields section becomes available across portfolios.

Group fields into sections

Create named sections, add fields to them, and drag to reorder both the sections and the fields within them. The order you set here is how fields appear when users enter data at asset level.

What happens next

  • Custom fields are enabled by default for all portfolios. You can disable them for a portfolio under its settings if they are not relevant there.
  • Values are entered per asset, in the Custom Fields section of the asset view.

Note: Custom fields do not feed Scaler's standard ESG calculations (energy, GHG, water, waste) or reporting frameworks. For derived KPIs based on number fields, use Custom Metrics in the Analytics Portal.
