Purpose of this article
Learn how to record technical building-systems audit data in Scaler using the Technical Audit tab, so it is stored per asset over time and included in your data export.
Before you start
- Access level: Portfolio Editor or Admin
- An admin must enable Technical Audit for the portfolio first (see Enabling Technical Audit below)
- Technical Audit is available in the input portal and in the Scaler Spreadsheet.
The Technical Audit tab captures building-systems audit data, for example heating and hot water systems, building management systems, setpoints, landlord-controlled areas, and cool roof. It is separate from the GRESB Efficiency Measures and Risk & Technical Building Assessments sections.
Enabling Technical Audit
Technical Audit is off by default. An admin must switch it on for the portfolio before the tab appears for an asset.
Data Collection Portal → Portfolio → Settings → Enable by collection
Turn on Technical Audit in the Enable by collection tab.
Where to find it
Once enabled, the Technical Audit tab appears in each asset's Inputs sidebar:
Data Collection Portal → Portfolio → Asset → Technical Audit
It is also available as a Technical Audit tab in the Scaler Spreadsheet for bulk entry.

Entering technical audit data
- Open an asset and select the Technical Audit tab
- Complete the relevant building-systems fields for the asset
- Save the entry
Technical audit data is time-versioned per asset, in the same way as reporting details, so each reporting period keeps its own record. Each row shows the value, unit, and a Relevant since date marking the reporting period the entry applies to.
The tab captures:
Technical Audit Date
Number of Heating Systems
Hot Water System Type,Hot Water System Install Year, andHot Water System Coverage
Building Management System Present, andBMS Installation Year
Indoor Heating SetpointandIndoor Cooling Setpoint
Landlord-Controlled Heating AreaandLandlord-Controlled Cooling Area
Cool Roof
Bulk entry with the Scaler Spreadsheet
For portfolios, use the Technical Audit tab in the Scaler Spreadsheet. Each asset occupies one row per relevant period, and dropdown values are provided in the spreadsheet's lists.
In your data export
Technical audit fields are included in the standard data export, so you can review the captured data alongside the rest of your asset data.
