Reviewing or adjusting your emission factors

A quick guide to review the emission factors Scaler applies and switch to manual to adjust a value, always recording a reference.

Purpose of this article

This is a quick guide to review the emission factors Scaler applies to your portfolio and adjust one if you need to. For regional networks, dataset toggles, and full methodology, see Configuring location-based emission factors.

Before you start

  • Scaler applies default emission factors automatically, based on asset country, energy network, meter subcategory and source, and consumption year. You only need to act if you want to review or override them.
  • Only energy types with active meters, and countries where you have assets, appear in the tool.

Review your emission factors

  1. Go to Data Collection Portal → Portfolio → Emission Factors.
  1. Check the factors shown per country, subcategory, and year. The Reference column shows the dataset source.

Visual cues: a blue outline means a value was manually edited, and a yellow outline means the factor is zero.

Adjust a factor

  1. Open the dropdown at the top of the Emission Factor Tool.
  1. Select Manual.
  1. Edit the values directly in the table.
  1. Update the Reference field to document the source.

Warning: Always update the Reference field when you edit a factor. This keeps the change audit-traceable and GHG Protocol compliant.

Note: Do not adjust fuel factors to reflect renewable purchases or offsets. Only adjust a fuel factor when the actual fuel composition differs from standard values, for example a verified biogas blend.
