Portfolio Settings

A quick guide to configuring portfolio-level settings, including structure, including reporting preferences.

Before adding asset-level data, review your portfolio settings. To do so, navigate to Data Collection Mode > Portfolio > Settings, which will display the following view:

Please review and, if needed, adjust the following:

Required settings

  • Portfolio name: This is the name displayed in the Portfolio dropdown and in all generated reports.
  • Default unit system: Choose between Metric or Imperial. This defines the unit system used in all generated reports and sets the default for newly created assets. While each asset can have its own unit system, relevant values will be automatically converted to this default for reporting purposes.
  • Default reporting year: The reporting year displayed upon logging into Scaler. We recommend setting this to the most recent year with complete data. For example, during the 2025 calendar year, set the default to 2024 if data collection for that year is finalized.
  • Oldest reporting year: The earliest year for which your portfolio contains data.
  • First month of your interval: This determines the start of your reporting year.
    • For calendar year reporting, select January
    • For fiscal year reporting, choose the applicable start month
  • Default currency: The currency used for all monetary inputs across the platform (excluding Roadmap Measures, where currency can be specified per measure).
    • Changing this value does not convert any previously entered amounts — it only updates the currency label applied.
    • This setting does not affect currencies assigned to individual roadmap measures. Those must be updated manually or in bulk using the Scaler Spreadsheet.

Optional settings

  • Last reporting year: Defines the most recent year to include in Analytics and generated reports. When you’re still entering data for the current year, including it may result in misleading visuals—especially for Roadmap Measures, which rely on the latest energy and GHG consumption data to generate future projections.
    • Use this field to exclude current-year data until it is complete.
    • For new portfolios, if this field is left blank, it defaults to the Default reporting year.
    • Note: This field does not update automatically and must be adjusted manually each year.
  • Carbon price: Enter your carbon price as currency/tCO₂/year. This value is used in financial projections within the Roadmap Tool and applied across all years.
  • Show Scaler Score: In Analytics > Portfolio > Overview, Scaler displays a portfolio-wide score based on a methodology aligned with GRESB scoring, but enhanced with additional performance indicators such as intensity metrics and stranding dates. You can choose to hide this score from the Overview page if preferred.
