Understand the six ways to export data from Scaler and choose the method that matches your needs.
Export methods
Scaler offers six ways to get your data out of the platform, each designed for different use cases.
1. Raw data via the Scaler Spreadsheet
Export unprocessed field values exactly as entered — useful for audits, backups, or external processing.
2. Calculated metrics via the Data Export
Export processed sustainability metrics (energy intensities, GHG emissions, CRREM alignment, etc.) in predefined or custom formats. From the Analytics Portal Asset List you can choose Current View (exactly the columns you've customized), Data Export (predefined variable packages), or Certification list (one row per certification held by your assets).
3. Framework-specific reports
Generate pre-configured reports aligned with ESG reporting frameworks like GRESB, GRI, SFDR, EU Taxonomy, and others.

4. API integration
Automate data feeds to your own systems for real-time integration, custom dashboards, or business intelligence tools.

5. Meter-level monthly consumption
Download monthly consumption per meter for energy, water and waste. This is the only export that breaks consumption below the asset level. The file includes both actual readings (actual_monthly_consumption) and Scaler-generated estimates (estimated_linear_extrapolation_consumption) so the time series is continuous. Energy, water and waste are downloaded separately.

6. Portfolio KPI trends via the Metrics dashboard
Download saved KPI tables from the Metrics dashboard — portfolio-, company- or asset-level values across multiple reporting years, one row per KPI. This is the only metric export that includes your own custom fields (number, dropdown and boolean) alongside standard metrics.

Which method should I use?
Start from what you need, then follow the arrow.
1. One row per asset (asset-level data)?
- Standard metric packages, no customization → Data Export (Compact, General, or a category-specific version)
- Every calculated variable Scaler produces → Data Export — Extended
- Exactly the columns you've chosen on screen, as a repeatable custom report → Current View (Asset List → Customize → Download)
- A list of certifications, one row per certification, with levels and dates → Certification list (Asset List → Download)
- The original values exactly as entered, for audits or backups → Scaler Spreadsheet (raw data)
2. Portfolio- or company-level KPIs across multiple years?
→ Metrics dashboard download — one row per KPI, one column per year. Also the only metric export that includes your own custom fields.
3. Consumption below asset level?
→ Monthly meter-level export — one row per meter, actual readings plus estimates.
4. A submission-ready framework output (GRESB, GRI, SFDR, …)?
→ Framework reports in the Reports Portal.
5. Automated or real-time access?
→ API integration.
Choosing between Current View and the Data Export? Current View downloads exactly the columns you've selected — the Customize panel offers hundreds of metrics, including a few that no Data Export version contains (like-for-like change %, ASHRAE-100 targets, CRREM misalignment flags, building performance standards columns, Third party ID). The Extended Data Export contains the full variable set (1,600+ columns) but not those Current View-only columns. Custom fields are only included in the Metrics dashboard download.
