Getting data out of Scaler

Choose the right export method for your needs: raw data via spreadsheet, calculated metrics via Data Export, framework-specific reports, or API integration.

Purpose of this article

Understand the four ways to export data from Scaler and choose the method that matches your needs.

Export methods

Scaler offers four ways to get your data out of the platform, each designed for different use cases.

1. Raw data via the Scaler Spreadsheet

Export unprocessed field values exactly as entered — useful for audits, backups, or external processing.

2. Calculated metrics via the Data Export

Export processed sustainability metrics (energy intensities, GHG emissions, CRREM alignment, etc.) in predefined or custom formats.

3. Framework-specific reports

Generate pre-configured reports aligned with ESG reporting frameworks like GRESB, GRI, SFDR, EU Taxonomy, and others.

4. API integration

Automate data feeds to your own systems for real-time integration, custom dashboards, or business intelligence tools.

Which method should I use?

Export raw data when you need:

  • Audit trails showing original input values
  • Database backups
  • Data for external processing or analysis
  • A complete snapshot of all entered fields

Export calculated metrics when you need:

  • Sustainability KPIs for investor reports
  • Custom analyses in Excel or BI tools
  • Aggregated portfolio performance data
  • Multi-year performance comparisons

Generate framework reports when you need:

  • Submissions to GRESB, GRI, SFDR, or other specific frameworks
  • Audit-ready outputs with supporting documentation
  • Pre-configured templates that meet regulatory requirements

Use API integration when you need:

  • Automated workflows
  • Real-time data in external systems
  • Custom dashboards or applications
  • Programmatic access to Scaler data
