Masterclass Series
This three-part series covers everything you need to navigate reporting season confidently:
- Data Collection (February 10) – New tools, improvements, and workflows for collecting and managing data
- Reporting (February 12) – Generating reports and preparing submissions
- Analytics & Insights (February 18) – Understanding your portfolio performance and identifying trends
Key Takeaways
1. New Workflow Tools Make Data Collection Action-Oriented
The Portfolio Overview Dashboard shows exactly where you stand on data completion across your portfolio. The redesigned Asset List automatically sorts incomplete assets to the top—click Resolve to jump straight to issues that need attention. The Alerts Dashboard centralizes all blocking issues and warnings, with bulk spreadsheet download capabilities for efficient resolution across multiple assets.
2. Two Data Coverage Methodologies Serve Different Purposes
Scaler uses two distinct data coverage calculations:
- GRESB-aligned methodology: What appears in reports and analytics (aggregated at energy category level)
- Scaler methodology: Granular meter-level tool for identifying gaps in your data collection process
Both methodologies are available throughout the platform. Use the one that matches your current task—GRESB-aligned for reporting preparation, Scaler methodology for operational data gap analysis.
3. Major Meter & Consumption Updates
The Meter List Dashboard now prioritizes meters by covered area and time coverage, helping you focus efforts where they'll have the greatest impact on data completeness. Recent feature additions include meter versioning for tracking configuration changes over time, EV charging station configuration, solar panel production estimation, consumption correction capabilities, and calculated meters for automated aggregation. Monitoring method terminology has been updated for international clarity.
4. Spreadsheet Best Practices
Use Custom Selection when downloading spreadsheets to include only the fields you're actively editing—this reduces the risk of accidental overwrites. Always read Rows 8-10 before filling any field to understand the field type, required units, and whether the field is mandatory. Follow a tight download-edit-upload cycle rather than letting spreadsheets sit for weeks, which increases the risk of working with outdated data.
5. Data Request Tool Eliminates Email Chaos
Send field-specific data requests directly to internal or external stakeholders. Recipients enter data directly into Scaler through a simple interface. You review and validate submissions before they enter the platform—no manual re-entry or email attachments required.
