Masterclass Series
This three-part series covers everything you need to navigate reporting season confidently:
- Data Collection (February 10) – New tools, improvements, and workflows for collecting and managing data
- Reporting (February 12) – Portfolio setup, report generation, emissions factors, and audit features
- Analytics Tools (February 18) – Using dashboards and analytics tools to gain insights from your data
Key Takeaways
1. Portfolio Settings Drive Your Reporting Experience
Update your Default reporting year and Last reporting year to 2025 in Portfolio Settings to ensure the platform displays current data in analytics and reports. Enable fiscal year reporting if needed—this reconfigures both reports and analytics to match your fiscal calendar. Toggle on all frameworks you'll report to under Data Collection Settings to activate field mapping and completion tracking for those specific reports.
2. Multiple Pathways to Export Your Data
Generate framework-specific reports (GRESB, GRI, SFDR) directly from the Reports Dashboard, or use the Data Export feature for customized metric sets. The Analytics Portal Asset List lets you build custom exports by selecting specific assets and metrics, then downloading in your preferred format. Export options include compact or extended variable sets, monthly or quarterly granularity, and single-year or multi-year ranges.
3. Draft Reports and Audit Trails Support Your Workflow
Generate draft reports before reaching 100% data completion to review outputs and identify remaining gaps. Enable audit trails when generating final reports to include supporting sheets with conversion factors, emissions factors, explanations, and raw data exports. Save final reports in the platform so your entire team can access the same version without relying on email attachments or shared folders.
4. Emissions Factor Configuration Offers Deep Customization
Scaler's default emissions factor set aligns with CRREM and includes national databases from EPA (US) and NGA (Australia). Switch to a manual set to customize location-based factors for district heating or other specific energy types. Market-based emissions accounting requires linking energy suppliers at the asset level and suppliers at the meter level—ensure your subcategory and source configurations match across both.
5. Updated GHG Accounting Methodology (January 2025)
GHG Protocol, GRESB, and Scaler now classify emissions based on operational control rather than space type. Meters in tenant spaces under landlord control now appear in Scope 1 or Scope 2 instead of Scope 3. Review your meter configurations to ensure area type and operational control settings reflect your intended emissions classification for both historical and future data.
