Purpose of this article
Learn how to enable, prepare, and generate framework-specific reports (GRESB, GRI, SFDR, EU Taxonomy, IFRS S2, and more) in the Reports Portal, with audit-ready outputs and supporting documentation.
For a full tour of the Reports Portal itself (navigation, the three-step workflow, Saved Reports, and Report History), see Using the Reports Portal. This article focuses on what is specific to framework reports.
When to use framework reports
Generate framework reports when you need:
- Submissions to GRESB, GRI, SFDR, or other specific frameworks
- Audit-ready outputs with supporting documentation
- Pre-configured templates that meet regulatory requirements
- Time-stamped reports linked to specific submission versions

BVI report = European ESG Template (EET). German-market clients often ask for the "BVI report" or "BVI ESG template." This is the same template Scaler generates as the European ESG Template (EET) — the standardized ESG data template published by the BVI (the German fund association, Bundesverband Investment und Asset Management) as a working aid and developed via FinDatEx. To produce a BVI report in Scaler, enable and generate the European ESG Template (EET).
Use portfolio-level reports when your reporting obligation is scoped to a specific fund or asset group. Use company-level reports when your obligation spans the full organization — for example, entity-level SFDR PAI statements, UNPRI submissions, or IFRS S2 disclosures covering all assets under management.
Note: INREV SDDS specifically separates actual and estimated data at portfolio and asset level in its output. For details on how Monitoring methods (set up under Meter Details) map to this classification, see Data reliability methodology.*
Where reports live
Framework reports are generated in the Reports Portal, which has its own section in the platform. Select a portfolio (or the Company context) from the switcher at the top, then open a report from the left sidebar. Company-level reports now use the same layout as portfolio-level reports.
The Reports Portal sidebar includes Overview, Data Gaps, one row per enabled report, Saved Reports, Report History, and Manage reports. For a full tour, see Using the Reports Portal.

Enabling a report
Before a framework appears in the Reports Portal and starts tracking data completion, it must be enabled. You can do this from either place, and they do the same thing:
- Reports Portal → Manage reports, under Outputs
- Data Collection Portal → Settings → Data Collection, under the Enable by report tab
Which one you use is a matter of workflow. If you are working in data collection and want the data-completion tracking (required-field progress) to switch on for a framework, you will usually enable it there first. If you are already working in the Reports Portal, you can enable new report types directly from Manage reports.
Enablement works the same at portfolio and company level — switch the context at the top of the portal. Company-level frameworks (IFRS S2, SFDR PAI, UNPRI, and CSRD templates) are enabled from the Company context.

Understanding data completion
All required fields for a given framework must be filled in across relevant assets to reach 100%. In the Reports Portal this score appears as Data completion or Data readiness depending on the framework.
- 100% = all required fields are complete
- Reports can still be generated below 100% as drafts (see Draft reports below)
Scaler distinguishes between three field types for reports:
- ✔ Required — Must be filled in to reach 100%
- ✔ C Conditionally required — Become required based on another field's value
- P Preferred — Improve scoring or disclosure quality (e.g., GRESB points), but are not required for completion
How to see all required fields for a report
The best overview of report requirements is in the Scaler Spreadsheet.
Navigation: Data Collection Portal → Portfolio → Asset List
- Select one or more assets
- Use the floating action bar to download the spreadsheet
- Choose Custom selection
- Download any section (e.g., Asset details)
In the spreadsheet:
- Open the Descriptions & Guidance sheet
- Scroll to the far right
- You'll see one column per report showing required, conditionally required, and preferred fields
You can filter these columns to quickly understand what is needed for each report.
Generating a report
Every report follows the same three-step workflow in the Reports Portal. Open the report from the sidebar:
Step 1: Get Data completion / Data readiness to 100%
Work through the Blocking Issues (missing required fields and errors). Click View & Fix Issues to jump to the affected assets. There are three practical ways to close a gap:
- Single asset, single field — fix it inline from the filtered asset list.
- Many assets, same field — select the rows, download them in the Scaler Spreadsheet format, fill in bulk, and re-upload.
- Data owned externally — use Send data request to ask the data owner (e.g. a property manager) directly from the platform.
The portfolio-wide view of every open issue across all enabled reports lives under Data Gaps in the Reports Portal sidebar.
Step 2: Optimize report (optional)
Review Warnings, check Outliers, and analyze Performance. These do not block generation but improve accuracy before submission.
Step 3: Generate & save report
Confirm the Reporting year, Unit system, and any framework-specific options, click Generate Report, review the summary modal, then click Save Report to store a time-stamped copy (including the underlying raw data, emission factors, and conversion factors). Optionally tick Mark as Final.

For the full step-by-step, including the Data Gaps triage view and Saved Reports, see Using the Reports Portal.
The Workflow tab. Some frameworks (currently GRESB) offer an optional Workflow tab alongside the Overview that presents the submission as a guided, step-by-step checklist with links to where you act in Scaler. Today it is a personal guide only: ticking the boxes does not change your data, your report, or its completion status. This Workflow view is the direction Scaler is heading and is expected to progressively replace the horizontal three-step layout described above. See Completing a GRESB submission using Scaler for the walkthrough.

Generate with audit trail
When generating, the Include audit trail option adds sheets with unit conversion factors, location-based and market-based emission factors, report explanations (calculation formulas), and a raw data export. Generation takes longer but produces audit-ready outputs.
Framework reports with audit trail generate time-stamped documentation capturing the exact data used at the moment of generation. Raw data exports reflect the current state of your database and update as values change, making them less suitable for audit purposes.

Draft reports
Before Data completion / Data readiness reaches 100%, click Generate draft report to preview output. Drafts help catch mapping or totals issues early, and are especially valuable for frameworks whose own portals run final validation (GRESB is the clearest example). You can regenerate drafts as often as you like.
Draft reports contain incomplete data. Scaler may not investigate perceived issues with reports generated below 100% completion.
Drafts don't appear under Saved Reports, but every generation — drafts included — is logged in Report History with a timestamp, the generator's name, and a download link.
Company-level reporting
IFRS S2, SFDR PAI, and UNPRI can be generated at the company level, aggregating data across all active portfolios. CSRD templates are also company-level.
Company-level reports now use the same layout as portfolio-level reports: a sidebar item per report and a dedicated Manage reports page. Switch to the Company context at the top of the Reports Portal.
How aggregation works
Company-level reports automatically include all portfolios marked as active in your account. Scaler manages this classification on your behalf; portfolios used for onboarding demos or testing duplicates are marked inactive and excluded automatically. Only portfolios containing your real, live data are included.
Company-level reports include all active portfolios — it is not possible to select a subset. If you need a report scoped to specific portfolios only, use portfolio-level reporting instead.
Enabling company-level reports
You can enable company-level reports from either portal:
- Reports Portal → Manage reports (Company context), then enable under Outputs, or
- Data Collection Portal → Company → Settings → Data Collection, then toggle the framework to
Active
Then generate from the company-level report page in the Reports Portal.
CSRD Templates
CSRD templates are available for manual completion. They cover organizational requirements outside Scaler's scope — governance, stakeholder engagement, and materiality assessments.
Access: Reports Portal → Company → CSRD
Templates included:
- CSRD Double Materiality Introduction
- CSRD Stakeholder Inventarisation
- CSRD Double Materiality Assessment Stakeholder Inventarisation
- CSRD Material Impact Assessment
- CSRD Material Topic Matrix
- CSRD EFRAG IG 3 List of ESRS Data Points
Once completed, templates can be re-uploaded to Scaler for documentation storage and audit support.

Troubleshooting & common mistakes
Issue: Generate Report is greyed out → Solution: Data completion / Data readiness is below 100% — generate a draft instead, or resolve the remaining Blocking Issues.
Issue: Company-level report shows 0% completion → Solution: The framework must be enabled at both portfolio level AND company level.
Issue: An asset shows 100% but the portfolio shows below 100% → Solution: Other assets in the portfolio are incomplete — check Data Gaps for the full list.
Issue: I need audit documentation → Solution: Generate with the Include audit trail option — this creates time-stamped sheets with all supporting data.
Issue: Report generation is taking a long time → Solution: Reports with audit trail take longer to process — this is normal for comprehensive outputs.
